About HMBInk

HMBInk started with a simple idea: make a t-shirt worth keeping.

The name stands for Hold My Beer — that particular energy before you do something you probably should have thought through more carefully. It felt right.

Where the designs come from

Every design on this site is an original illustration by Aleksei Avduevskii — an art director and illustrator based in London. The work draws on a love of older print traditions: halftone dots, limited colour palettes, the kind of graphics that looked like they were made with care and a certain amount of ink.

The subject matter is Australia. Not the postcard version — the real one. The wildlife that looks like it was designed by committee, the flora that doesn't grow anywhere else, the particular quality of light and colour that stays with you long after you've left.

The Australia connection

The first trip was in 2012. Then came a longer stint living and working in Sydney in 2015 — long enough to fall properly in love with the city, and to start paying close attention to everything around it. The birds. The trees. The way the harbour looks at different times of day. The specific strangeness of a continent that went its own way for a very long time.

That affection never really went away. HMBInk is, in part, a way of keeping it alive.

The product

Right now, HMBInk is focused on printed tees — quality cotton, original artwork, nothing overcomplicated. Each design is printed to order, so there's no warehouse full of unsold stock, and nothing is made until someone actually wants it.

The catalogue is small and intentional. The plan is to keep it that way.
